About the Aikido Network

The Aikido Network was founded by Derek Bindner in 1997 to increase self-confidence levels in individuals, and to wipe out their insecurities of feeling powerless in confrontational situations. Encouragement and support is given to clients to find their voice, and to use it when required. Derek shares his positive experiences, and how he was able to overcome difficult encounters.

Yoshinkan Aikido was initially offered in London, Ontario in 1997 to law enforcement and executive/close protection professionals as extra training in response to the increasing rate of violence in our society. Classes were only offered privately and in small groups because of limited space. As the popularity of Aikido grew, Sensei Bindner was encouraged to expand to a larger facility, and feature semi-private classes. In September 2000, the Japanese name "Seishukan" was given to Sensei Bindner by Kiyoyuki Terada Shihan, 9th Dan; Yoshinkan Aikido’s most senior student and highest ranked Black belt in the world. Directly translated, the word "Seishukan", means, "Place where the Spirit is Master". On October 1st, 2000, the Aikido Network (Seishukan dojo) opened its doors on Oxford Street at Richmond, offering full time instruction to the general public in Yoshinkan Aikido and Goshin Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Due to rapid growth, in 2003, the Aikido Network expanded it's facilities to Byron, and than again, doubling it's size, moved to 1615 North Routledge Park, in Hyde Park on July 1st, 2006.

Under the direction of chief instructor Sensei Derek Bindner, 3rd Dan, students are taught the techniques and ways of Yoshinkan Aikido, and Goshin Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

The professionally developed non-violent, non-competitive, non-aggressive curriculum taught at Aikido Network has been designed and proven to build mind/body coordination, conflict resolution, and self-protection skills.
